STUDY TOUR TO PENN STATE, USA
A group of six local Principals, Together 4 All staff, representatives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the Southern Education and Library Board and Dartington Social Research Unit took part on a study tour to Penn State to view how the PATHS (promoting alternative thinking strategies) programme operates in practice and learn how we could adapt the programme to suit Northern Ireland conditions. The Principals came back enthused about the programme.
SEMINAR
Together 4 All hosted a seminar on the 4 October 2007 at Belfast Castle for Policy Makers and Primary School Principals. Mr Paul Martin, the Chief Inspector for the Social Services Inspectorate, Chaired the session. Professor Mark Greenberg, from Penn State University and originator of the ‘PATHS’ programme on behaviour, was guest speaker at the Seminar. Professor Greenberg provided examples of how effective programmes, such as PATHS, are successful in improving outcomes in behaviour of children and young people, and how effective evidence based, high fidelity models have been successfully linked to Government priorities and have provided long term cost effectiveness.
